“To say the least, my parents are creatures (perhaps hermits) of habit. They have gone on the same summer vacation annually since decades before I was born. We stay in the same hotel on Maui, in the same exact rooms, never leaving the hotel and eating at the exactly same restaurants for exactly ten days. It’s more than enough to drive anyone unprepared crazy, as it used to when I was younger. This ritualistic trip is a blessing though, and I’m learning more and more how to make it meaningful. I find this week and a half a nice time to retreat into myself, delve into books and exercise more than usual. If you’re going to recharge, why not do it with good food, loving people, and a dreamy landscape?”
